      <image:title>Blog - Back to Normal?</image:title>
<image:caption>I woke up one morning last week (way too early) with an incredible yearning for something I used to pretty much take for granted: to be able to safely have a big “y’all come” worship gathering on Sunday September 12, with Sunday School starting, and a big “enhanced” coffee hour afterwards, with hugs and people all stuffed in the annex, laughing and catching up . . . being amazed at the kids who’d grown 6 inches over the summer (or so it would seem) . . . .</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Back to Normal?</image:title>
<image:caption>And I feel it and see it in the plans being made, the concern for others and for justice that I hear—our September newsletter is chock full of upcoming events, some Zoom, some in person—and I encourage you to check them out, plan on joining in whatever way works for you, along with joining us for worship on Sunday mornings either in person or livestream . . . . God created us for community, and hard as it is right now—let us all do what we can to BE God’s community in this place and time.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Haiti School - Second Year Class</image:title>
<image:caption>In the second year, those who had completed their studies moved up second grade class and a new k/1 class was started. This process continued until 2013, when the school was now a complete primary school with six classes in grades k/1-6. That year we initiated a program of selecting six of our best graduates and paying tuition to send them to a nearby secondary school. We continue to add six new students each year</image:caption>

<image:title>Crop Walk - Schenectady CROP Walk for Hunger.</image:title>
<image:caption>We walk because they walk. Millions of people around the world need to walk miles each day to get their food and water. In memory of that Trinity joins the Schenectady crop walk for hunger. Members of the church walk to raise funds to help battle food shortages. Trinity has been active each year with this important cause, (even via a virtual walk due to Covid in 2020).</image:caption>

      <image:title>History - Our History</image:title>
<image:caption>Trinity Presbyterian Church began in 1904 as a mission to Italian immigrants in Schenectady, NY. Like many northeastern industrial cities at the time, Schenectady witnessed a large influx of immigrants from Europe to work in its factories. Frank Cherubini, pastor of Trinity from 1946 to 1964, shared the story of the church’s origins in his memoirs:</image:caption>

      <image:title>History</image:title>
<image:caption>Trinity Presbyterian Church began with the evangelical zeal of a distinguished pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Russell Stevenson. When some of the young people of the parish came to him for work, he suggested that they begin a Sunday school for the Italians, who were then newly hired to work for GE in Schenectady. From a humble beginning in Sunday school work, Trinity Presbyterian Church has grown. The Sunday school mission, originally called the San Salvatore Presbyterian mission would grow rapidly reaching an enrollment of 100 by January 1905. Aside from caring for the spiritual needs of its members, the church offered classes in English language and American History to help assimilate new immigrants into citizenship. Eventually, the mission would serve two locations in Schenectady; a “store front” school in the Mount Pleasant section of the city, and what would be understood as the main sanctuary on Jay Street, one block from Schenectady’s City Hall.</image:caption>

      <image:title>History</image:title>
<image:caption>From its earliest days the members of “Trinity” showed incredible strength and conviction. This was a congregation of strong personalities who were zealous for their church and beliefs. Perhaps it was this pioneering spirit that led the church to be ahead of its time in terms of outreach. In the 1940’s Trinity would show movies in the church hall as a way of attracting new members. It wasn’t until 1956, when the deteriorating state of the Jay street sanctuary forced the newly independent congregation to look for a new physical location. The congregation felt that God was leading them to their now, home of over 50 years, the Swaggertown Road area of Glenville.</image:caption>

      <image:title>History</image:title>
<image:caption>Even after that move, the same conviction and commitment are what has brought Trinity through it’s challenging times. It’s the spirit of the people that makes things happen – and it’s the stories those people share, whether it be how the women’s group finished the church kitchen by deciding that it just “had to happen” and throwing down the first $20 bill; or the same determination that led to the driveway being paved after all those years – or even the Sanctuary renovation that took place in 2007, which allowed the new technology of today to be permanently integrated into our workshop space. God is alive at Trinity, through his people and his work. More details of Trinity’s roots were provided from records of First Presbyterian of Schenectady as document called: Sure Foundation Click the link.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Women's Spirituality Group gathers women to address questions like: “How does being a woman in today’s world effect our views of God, spirituality, church, religion, and life?” and “How can we help one another as women to live our faith more effectively and authentically?” Over the years, activities and events have ranged from retreats, book studies, hikes, helping one another with household projects and renovation, “Covenant Groups” (small groups who covenanted to meet weekly for spiritual exploration), Bible Study, and worship. We seek to support one another's spiritual journeys, to grow in our understanding of God, to explore a variety of imagery for God and to honor one another's perspectives. We also have a lot of fun! and provide each other with support and encouragement through the ups and downs of life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Faith is more caught than it is taught. When we consider the influences along our faith journey it is usually the personal influence and examples of teachers and role models that have made the difference rather than lessons learned. Youth group is a vital part of the process as teens are seeking both deep, healthy relationships and community where faith makes a real difference and strong leaders who will make a profound difference in their life. Youth fellowship provides the necessary small group experience teens crave where they can talk about what matters to them and experience many fun and zany events and games that help them know the church can be fun! <image:title>Faith Statements - Trinity’s Theological Statement</image:title>
<image:caption>Trinity Presbyterian Church seeks to live into the faith described by Micah 6:8: “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.” We believe that God is the creator and the source of all things. God is with us always and is love in all of its manifestation. We witness the love of God primarily in Jesus Christ and experience God today through enduring witness of the Holy Spirit, who is always with us, strengthening and empowering us to live our faith. Faith is experienced as trusting in God’s promises in our life and basing our life on them. Through Jesus of Nazareth, God became flesh and dwelt among us, (John 1:14). In Jesus, the fullness of justice, kindness, and presence of God were expressed; his commitment to this continued even when it meant his death on the cross. But death is not the final word. God raised Jesus to life. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we know that life, justice, and God’s loving kindness will always prevail, even beyond the earthly life we know. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Grace means God extends salvation to us freely though Jesus Christ. We do not earn it. Salvation begins in this life and continues to grow into the eternity of God. We are chosen by God for both salvation and service. Accepting Jesus Christ means to live as his disciple. Living as a disciple of Jesus Christ means to receive him as the manifestation of God on earth, and therefore to follow the Great Commandment, “You shall love the Lord God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength…” and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” (Mark 12:29-31).</image:caption>
